Family
Mahathi is from a family of musicians.
Her father, Thiruvaiyaru P. Sekar, is a vocalist and a disciple of M. Balamuralikrishna. Her mother, Vasanthi Sekar, a flautist, is the grand disciple of T. R. Mahalingam, N. Ramani and Kesi.

Career
Mahathi underwent her initial musical training from her parents and from Deepa Gayatri of Trivandrum.
When Mahathi's family moved to Trichur,[citation needed] she was put under the guidance of Mangad. K. Natesan. Mahathi underwent advanced Musical Training under the tutelage of Padma Bhushan “Sangeetha Kalanidhi" Madurai T.
N. Seshagopalan.[2] Mahathi has been awarded the Central Govt Scholarship for Carnatic Music in [citation needed]
Playback singing
Mahathi started playback singing in with a duet, "Iyyaiyyo Pudichirukku", with Hariharan, under the music guide of Harris Jayaraj in film, Saamy.
Mahathi is an Indian Carnatic musician and a playback singer for quite a lot of movies in quite a few languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and additional. She made her debut Tamil monitor Enna Maranthalum from the movie Kaadhal Jaathi and the monitor was composed by Ilayaraja. Then she made her debut Telugu show Paruvapu Vaana for the film Bheema and the monitor is directed by Harris Jayaraj. Then she did her graduation in Meenakshi CollegeKodambakkam.In , Mahathi won the Tamil Nadu Mention Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the tune "Naeraa Varattuma" from the show "Nenje Nenje".[3]

Mahathi presented the melody based quiz program, "Aaha Paadalam" on DoordarshanPodhigai TV with Raaghav.[4] In October she presented Ilaiyaraja's Live-in Concert organised by Jaya TV, "Andrum Indrum Endrum" with actor Parthiban.[5]
